Spring is a long time coming! We've about worn out our seed catalogs with planning and making wish lists and just plain drooling on the pictures.
But snow or no snow the shortest day of the year is past. The days are starting to lengthen spring can't be too far behind. This year our gardening will be focused on building soil and increasing tilth. We will be raising beds and creating contouring to manage runoff. We have arranged with a friend to take all of his manure/horse bedding and we will be interplanting with green manures. We plan to experiment with newspaper mulching and potato barrels this year as well.
We won't be offering a CSA this year due to time contraints. However we will have veggies available at the farm. We plan to send out a notice as goodies are ready to those who are interested and we'll also post what's ready here on the site.
Some of the things we plan to raise this year include:

Greenhouse Update
We now have two greenhouses. The unheated 60 footer in front of the house and a soon to be heated 30 foot greenhouse attached to the yellow garage.
In the 60 foot unheated greenhouse, we need to do some repairs before we add raised beds inside and start spring greens. The wind pulled the anchoring stakes up and lifted the south edge of the greenhouse up about a foot and neatly removed the plastic. That creates quite a draft!
The pictures below are of the construction of the 30 ft greenhouse. We are currently looking for a used wood burning forced air furnace for back up heat when the sun doesn't shine. As soon as we have the woodburner installed I know where I'll be spending a lot of my time. I can't wait to play in the dirt!
